More Than a Pit Stop: Tuning the Operating Model to Power Strategy

Many organizations struggle to achieve their desired business outcomes—challenged by shifting competition, rising customer expectations, and disruptive technologies. These headwinds often signal the need for a strategic “reset” to ensure the operating model is fully aligned to support execution.

One of the biggest barriers to change is a lack of clarity and consensus on what’s required to move the business forward. Without alignment and a shared understanding of how the operating model enables strategy, execution falters—and success remains out of reach.

Approach

We offer a two-day intensive workshop that brings together key stakeholders to explore how targeted changes to the operating model can better support growth strategies in selected market segments.

The process begins by gaining an understanding of the client’s situation, clarifying the challenge the client would like addressed by the workshop participants, and “mutually defining success” with the workshop sponsor.

Using design thinking and a proven operating model framework, participants assess current capabilities, identify gaps, and co-create a blueprint for change. The result is a prioritized set of initiatives and initial project plans—laying the foundation for a broader transformation program with stakeholder alignment from the start.

Methods

Participants work in small teams (2–3 people) focused on specific market segments and customer insights. Each team progresses through a structured series of exercises to identify and prioritize needed changes.

The workshop blends team-based and group activities to ensure shared understanding and alignment. Built-in integration points allow teams to reflect, recalibrate, and refine their outputs throughout the process.

Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will have:

•              Developed initial project plans to improve the execution of strategy

•              Gained hands-on experience applying design thinking to strategy execution

•              Built a shared understanding of operating model essentials for their market segments
